**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team at Retirement Unlimited. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for assisting the Executive Chef in all phases of meal preparation, ensuring the highest standards of sanitation and safety practices, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Assist the Executive Chef in meal preparation, including the preparation of salad bar offerings, desserts, and bakery items.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of culinary methods and assist with the procurement of food inventory and supplies.
  • Properly label and store food items in accordance with safe storage standards.
  • Understand and operate kitchen equipment, including food processors, dishwashers, and convection ovens.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including floors.
  • Responsible for the creation and preparation of baked food items, breads, desserts, and other culinary delights.
  • Perform scheduled cleaning of equipment and work areas according to schedule.
  • Set up the salad bar as required.
  • Assist in the organization and rotation of all stored food items.
  • Assist on the serving line when needed.
  • Independently resolve personnel conflicts and service problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

**Requirements:**

  • Minimum education of high school graduate with additional training in culinary arts preferred.
  • Must hold current Serve Safe certification.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and follow directions both verbally and written.
  • Must have the willingness and ability to independently resolve problems and make decisions within scope of authority.
  • Must be willing and able to perform simple repetitive tasks.
  • Must be in designated uniform during working hours.
  • Must be willing to lead and resolve conflicts as well as work as part of a team.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be customer-focused and display excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have the physical ability to stand for long periods of time and to exert 25 lbs. of force frequently, 50 lbs. occasionally, to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
