Overview

The Culinary Services Cook is responsible for preparing menu selections in alignment with established guidelines, ensuring that all dishes are presented attractively and served at the appropriate temperatures. The role emphasizes adherence to hygiene and food safety protocols to maintain optimal health standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute job functions safely in accordance with physical, sensory, and mental requirements.
  • Review menus and recipes, collaborating with the Director of Food & Nutrition Services to ensure clarity in meal preparation.
  • Prepare menu items according to set standards and specifications.
  • Assess food quantities required for meal preparation accurately.
  • Adhere to established recipes and food preparation techniques.
  • Accommodate individual dietary needs by preparing substitute menu items.
  • Serve meals in accordance with portion sizes indicated on the menu.
  • Properly cover, date, and label leftovers for safe storage.
  • Follow security protocols established for the kitchen environment.
  • Utilize appropriate infection control methods and personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Oversee food service personnel in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition Services.
  • Receive and verify deliveries against invoices when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen area, including all equipment and utensils.
  • Perform dishwashing duties for kitchenware and utensils as assigned.

  • Report any incidents of resident abuse or neglect immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Stay updated on best practices through educational opportunities provided by the organization.

Additional Duties
Perform supportive tasks that enhance the essential functions of the role, which may vary based on individual circumstances. Undertake other assigned responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Training: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to bend, stoop, push, pull, walk, and stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and transport supplies as necessary.

Skills: Proficient in reading, writing, and basic mathematics; strong interpersonal and communication skills; basic computer proficiency; knowledge of safety practices; and ability to communicate effectively in English.

Experience: Previous experience in a food service environment, particularly in large-scale food preparation and therapeutic diets, is preferred.
