Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Protective Services Worker to join our team at the Oregon Department of Human Services. As a key member of our Child Welfare team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of Oregon's most vulnerable children and families.

About the Role:

This is a limited duration position scheduled to end one year from date of hire. Limited Duration employees are eligible for benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct child safety assessments through an equity and culturally relevant lens, engaging with children, families, resource parents, and caregivers to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Balance the needs of the child and the family while adhering to legal requirements, conducting assessment and fact-finding interviews to assess conditions and situations regarding child safety.
  • Analyze collected information to determine appropriate child placement, considering each family's unique circumstances.
  • Create reports, case notes, and testify in court, communicating with diverse populations in office, community, or other legal settings.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field, or a bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with one year of Human Services experience or completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
  • An associate degree with two years of Human Services experience or one year of experience and related training, coursework, or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.

Essential Attributes:

  • Experience conducting interviews, investigations, and/or formal reviews to assess compliance with standards, policies, regulations, or laws.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and legal information to diverse populations, utilizing a trauma-informed lens to make sound judgments and identify successful solutions.
  • Experience utilizing time management skills to meet mandated deadlines.
