Job Overview

The Agricultural Applicator plays a crucial role in the effective application of herbicides and pesticides to designated crops based on the guidance provided by leadership. This position involves operating applicator machinery and ensuring its upkeep. A valid Class A or B CDL is mandatory for this role.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepares mixtures of pesticides, fertilizers, and chemicals for application.
  • Keeps precise records of treated acreage.
  • Conducts maintenance and calibration of application machinery.
  • Utilizes appropriate protective gear.
  • Engages in ongoing education to maintain pesticide applicator certification.
  • Participates in workshops related to applicator equipment.
  • Performs maintenance on additional machinery and fixed facilities.
  • Availability for night shifts, overtime, and some weekend hours during peak seasons is required.
  • Completes other job-related tasks as directed by leadership.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is expected.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A high school diploma is essential.
  • Experience in operating large-scale machinery is necessary.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old to operate Helena equipment and/or drive company vehicles. Age requirements may vary for positions requiring a CDL.
  • A Class A or B CDL is required.
  • Successful completion of a drug test and background screening is mandatory.

Skills for Success:

  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • A Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Background in agriculture.
  • Fundamental understanding of agricultural pesticides.
  • Excellent driving history.
  • Capability to interpret field maps and utilize tractor-mounted field computers.
  • Commitment to safety practices.
  • Ability to pass a CDL physical examination.
  • Capacity to work independently without direct supervision.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work setting for this role resembles a typical warehouse and distribution environment, where noise levels can range from moderate to loud, and occasionally very loud. Employees frequently work near moving machinery and may encounter fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological risks, as well as electrical hazards. This position requires manual dexterity for various tasks and involves talking, hearing, walking, standing, and sitting. Regular lifting or moving of items up to 100 pounds is expected.
