We are seeking a highly skilled Epidemiologist III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. The successful candidate will perform advanced research and epidemiological work in the area of Injury and Prevention in the Community Health Improvement Division.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary liaison on data and data quality for programs, providing consultation, presentations, and troubleshooting.
• Develop and implement advanced epidemiologic investigations following new or standardized scientific policies/protocols.
• Oversee data abstraction, prepare data quality reports, and ensure data quality meets or exceeds defined criteria.
Essential Functions:
(30%) Develop and improve tools to enter death certificates into the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) and create Child Fatality Review Team (CFRT) case spreadsheets using SAS, monitoring data quality and data reporting. Serve as the primary liaison on the data and data quality of the NVDRS and CFRT programs, providing consultation, presentations, and troubleshooting.
(30%) Develop and implement advanced epidemiologic investigations collecting, analyzing, and evaluating data, communicating results. Prepare reports and infographics on violent deaths and child fatalities, creating presentations for external stakeholders and to share at conferences. Analyze data for the CFRT biennial report submitted to the legislature on even-numbered years.
(20%) Develop an evaluation plan and oversee the quality of TVDRS data abstraction. Prepare and share data quality reports with abstraction staff, assisting staff to ensure data quality meets/exceeds the criteria defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Provide direction to staff to identify and resolve barriers in data quality.
(10%) Support injury prevention unit data analyses and provide data support as needed. Cross-train in fatal and non-fatal drug poisoning, motor vehicle crash injuries, EMS, and trauma data analyses, and other topics.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of principles and methods of epidemiology, scientific methods, data abstraction, and statistical concepts and methods, and their application to surveillance and research.
Skill in analyzing large sets, the use of computer software package applications (SAS), and in the development of procedures to monitor and evaluate progress in achieving project objectives.
Ability to develop and effectively deliver training and technical assistance about research/data methods and procedures, to facilitate meeting agendas, and to interpret complex statistical data to develop measuring instruments with respect to reliability, relevance, and validity.
