Job Summary

The Operational Director will be responsible for planning, directing, and managing the operational functions to ensure we are focused on meeting customer requirements and delivering legendary customer service while meeting the value, mission, and vision statement of Hub Group. This role requires a strong leader who can provide proactive employee relations management, including employee retention, employee satisfaction, and promotion of company culture. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of identifying opportunities for business improvement and developing/implementing plans to ensure continuous improvement. Additionally, the Operational Director will oversee warehouse staffing, including hiring, termination, discipline, and training. The role also involves managing the process of tracking and publishing all Key Performance Measures both internally and externally, as well as ensuring that employee individual performance metrics are tracked and utilized to manage labor spend and evaluate employee performance. The Operational Director will also participate in all budgeting activities, monitor budget performance on a monthly basis, and take proactive steps to ensure budget compliance. Furthermore, the role requires the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensure organization is focused on legendary customer service development, and participate in formulating and administering company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Provides leadership to achieve the value, mission, and vision statement of Hub Group
Is responsible for revenue and operational profit target achievement
Provides proactive employee relations management, including employee retention, employee satisfaction, and promotion of company culture
Oversees warehouse staffing, including hiring, termination, discipline, and training
Identifies opportunities for business improvement and develops/implements plans to ensure continuous improvement
Manages the process of tracking and publishing all Key Performance Measures both internally and externally

Participates in all budgeting activities

Requirements

Bachelors degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University; or 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
An operational background with a continuous improvement track record is required
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
