About the Role

We are seeking a skilled School Counselor to join our team at Easterseals NY- Carmel. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide counseling services to students with IEPs, develop treatment plans, and participate in interdisciplinary team conferences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide play therapy and counseling services to students with IEPs
  • Develop and carry out behavior management programs as indicated
  • Participate in the development of treatment plans and identify short and long-term social service goals for clients
  • Provide social work assessment, counseling, and referral services
  • Update the master treatment plan based on changes to the master problem list and social work treatment plans
  • Assist clients, families, and team members with short-term planning
  • Participate in and provide recommendations for interdisciplinary team conferences
  • Educate team members about specific psychosocial issues impacting client treatment plans
  • Establish rapport with families and caregiver support systems with client consent and facilitate family meetings as needed
  • Support and educate clients on relevant social, economic, and mental health concerns
  • Facilitate educational and parent groups and assist classroom staff/administration with family meetings
  • Carry on a positive working relationship with inter- and intra-Agency sources
  • Maintain professional ethics
  • Maintain documentation as defined in Agency's Policy Manual and as required by funding sources
Requirements
  • Licensed in Psychology, Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling
  • Two years of experience providing counseling to families and play therapy with young children
  • Ability to function as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team
