The Crisis Counselor provides clinical assessment and problem identification, recommendations, and referral services to individuals with acute, severe, or chronic problems related to emotional mental crisis or substance abuse for Behavioral Health Services at Campbell County Health.
The Crisis Counselor assists in clients' treatment while admitted to the inpatient psych unit, including individual and group therapy, and works as a member of the treatment team.
This role requires a Master's degree in a mental health field and licensure or provisional licensure as a licensed mental health professional.
Essential FunctionsThe Crisis Counselor evaluates and assesses individuals with acute/severe problems related to substance abuse, mental, or emotional problems, including suicidal, depressed, psychotic, and potentially violent clients.
The Crisis Counselor develops and implements specialized individual plans for clients to assist in identifying, minimizing, or resolving problems and ensuring safety.
The Crisis Counselor counsels and advises individuals, in person, virtually, and by telephone, who are experiencing acute emotional or mental crisis.
The Crisis Counselor evaluates clients placed on 72-hour hold and makes recommendations to the medical staff regarding release or detainment.
The Crisis Counselor makes client referrals to community agencies, determines whether individuals meet involuntary detention standards, and may place clients on 72-hour hold per county regulations.
The Crisis Counselor consults with mental health and other medical professionals, supervisors, and other staff regarding the status and disposition of clients.
The Crisis Counselor works with clients' families to assist them in understanding and dealing with the clients' problems.
The Crisis Counselor monitors individual behavior and progress to ensure the disposition and referrals are appropriate, reports, and documents observations of client behavior and progress.
The Crisis Counselor is actively engaged in the department, solves problems, participates in strategic planning, and contributes positively to workplace morale.
The Crisis Counselor serves as the dedicated crisis clinician during business hours and participates on the BHS 24/7 on-call crisis counselor schedule.
The Crisis Counselor transports clients as appropriate per CCH BHS transportation and mobile crisis policies.
The Crisis Counselor works positively and collaboratively with courts, law enforcement, physicians, hospital staff, Department of Family Services, Probation Offices, Campbell County School District, and other community agencies as applicable.
The Crisis Counselor maintains clinical documentation in a manner as required by department policy, the Standards for the Operation of Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Programs, and the Medicaid Policies and Procedures Manual, and in accordance with SAMHSA TIPS and TAPS.
The Crisis Counselor maintains competence in multicultural issues and demonstrates respect and understanding for people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The Crisis Counselor adheres to established policies and procedures for Behavioral Health services, Kid Clinic, and Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
The Crisis Counselor actively engages in departmental quality assurance and utilization management activities and processes, including monthly chart reviews.
The Crisis Counselor provides services to patients on the CCH Psychiatric unit, including individual and group therapy, and is an active member on the treatment team.
The Crisis Counselor maintains professional licensure through required educational and training experiences.
The Crisis Counselor participates in activities to promote mental health and/or the prevention of substance abuse.
The Crisis Counselor must be free from governmental sanctions involving healthcare and/or financial practices.
The Crisis Counselor complies with the hospital's Corporate Compliance Program, including the Code of Conduct, laws, and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
