The Clinical Lab Technologist plays a crucial role in the Blood Bank, responsible for performing complex technical analyses of blood specimens to diagnose and treat diseases. This position requires strong communication skills to ensure accurate test results are conveyed to attending physicians.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform various clinical analyses in the core laboratory, including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation.
- Interpret test results, review, and verify result reports to ensure accuracy.
- Operate automated or specialized equipment, performing maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to discuss test results and ensure timely notification of critical results.
- Provide technical assistance and support to laboratory staff as needed.
- Participate in validation studies to set up new procedures and equipment.
- Conduct quality control testing, documenting remedial actions for detected deficiencies.
- Ensure proper reagent preparation, storage, and dispensing to maintain test accuracy.
- May provide training to new laboratory staff.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all tests, processes, and testing platforms.
- Report and escalate any issues to the department supervisor.
- Perform testing on proficiency samples in the same manner as patient samples.
- Experience as a clinical lab technologist, preferred.
- Recent experience in Blood Bank.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent experience.
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
