Position Overview
The University of New Mexico is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our outpatient clinic team within the Department of Internal Medicine. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for managing the clinic's front desk operations, facilitating patient registration, and collaborating with relevant departments regarding worker compensation referrals. Additionally, this position involves supporting administrative staff with various back-office responsibilities.
Employment Conditions
- Must possess CPR certification.
- Immunization documentation may be required for vaccinations and TB testing.
- Hepatitis vaccination will be provided, with the option to decline or present vaccination records.
- A background investigation may be required.
- Post-offer, a pre-employment physical examination and medical history assessment will be conducted.
- Compliance with the influenza vaccination requirement is mandatory for those working in patient care settings.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, along with a Medical Assistant certification or be currently enrolled in a medical, nursing, or pharmacy program. Alternatively, a minimum of one year of experience in the medical field is acceptable. Higher educational qualifications may substitute for the required experience.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in managing clinic front desk operations.
- Proficiency in venipuncture.
- Ability to obtain referrals for medical treatment.
- Experience in assessing immune status for infectious diseases.
- Capability to administer vaccinations including MMR, Tdap, Hep B, Varicella, and Influenza, among others.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in maintaining medical records.
