Wescom Solutions Careers is seeking a highly skilled Traction Power Engineer to support our major rail construction projects. Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Traction Power Engineer who will be responsible for supporting our clients in solving issues related to traction power and high voltage electrical systems. The successful candidate will coordinate with various stakeholders throughout the design process, review project requirements, and develop complete electrification systems as requested by the client.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support clients in resolving issues related to traction power and high voltage electrical systems, including design, construction, testing, commissioning, and operations;
  • Coordinate with multiple stakeholders during the design process and develop acceptable solutions as the design evolves;
  • Review and provide input into project requirements, ensuring scope, specifications, schedule, and cost estimates are met;
  • Develop comprehensive electrification systems, including operations, system requirements, plans, and specifications, as requested by the client;
  • Review contractor's product submittals and shop drawings, respond to requests for information, and ensure compliance with relevant local safety standards and quality assurance plans;
  • Conduct site investigations, undertake site surveys, and perform quality assurance inspections to ensure electrical equipment meets safety and performance standards;
  • Assist with equipment installation, testing, and commissioning efforts, and support troubleshooting, evaluation, and solution development;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create proposals, scope, and cost estimates, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ensure all engineering work adheres to relevant industry codes and standards, such as CSA, OPSS, NEC, NFPA, AREMA, and IEEE.
About the Ideal Candidate:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline;
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, with at least 2+ years of experience designing AC and/or DC traction power electrification systems;
  • Professional Engineering License preferred;
  • Experience with traction power systems for light rail and third rail systems, as well as streetcar projects;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with DC systems (600/750/1000/1500V), AC systems (12.5/25KV), grounding, and EMI/EMC systems, including traction power and substation design, modeling, and simulations;
  • Strong electrical analysis skills, performing traction power and AC power load flow, short circuit calculations, protection coordination, relay coordination studies, arc flash calculations, ground grid calculations, cable sizing, and cable pulling tension calculations using ETAP and/or SKM Power Tools;
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards;
  • Proficient self-leadership, strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and ability to explain project technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Ability to learn new techniques, prioritize responsibilities, follow instructions, and comply with company policies;
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team, to meet business objectives.
Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000-$180,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
