Position Overview

Hazen and Sawyer is on the lookout for a driven and experienced engineer to enhance our asset management division.

This role entails collaborating with diverse teams of engineers, planners, and scientists to formulate asset management and strategic planning solutions for a variety of water-centric initiatives on local, regional, and national scales. The position also requires working closely with our Asset Management and Digital Strategies and Solutions teams to utilize Hazen's cutting-edge planning services and data analytics platform, thereby expanding our project delivery capabilities.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a passion for teamwork, along with the technical, organizational, and interpersonal abilities to:

  • Oversee the creation and execution of utility management strategies and asset management frameworks throughout their lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of Asset Management tools, including structured databases and interactive business intelligence dashboards.
  • Conduct life-cycle cost assessments for various asset categories.
  • Exhibit expertise in specialized modeling techniques and technologies that enhance project delivery and business growth.
  • Play a key role in project pursuits, scope formulation, and management of Asset and Utility Management services.
  • Act as project manager for a range of projects, potentially involving substantial contracts or programs.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines and designers to resolve conflicts and mentor junior staff on projects.
  • Ensure quality assurance on project deliverables.
  • Engage in work sharing and manage UMS staff for specific projects or office needs.
  • Guide and mentor staff within the region through project execution and direct engagement.
  • Lead the development of proposals.
  • Steer project teams to define requirements, devise solutions, and create deliverable templates.
  • Assess client needs and strategize solutions in collaboration with project teams.
  • Maintain effective communication and interaction with clients and internal team members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Word, Excel essential).
  • Familiarity with water quality and/or water/wastewater conveyance and treatment processes.
  • Experience as a project manager on water/wastewater or asset/utility management initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of database management and business intelligence tools such as Power BI.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adept problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively or independently.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary based on project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a STEM field or MBA.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License (Virginia and/or Maryland, or eligibility for licensure by comity).
  • Skills in geospatial analysis using ESRI applications.
  • Data mining or statistical analysis expertise.
  • Understanding of corporate financial protocols and standards.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, R), SQL, etc.
  • Knowledge of statistics, advanced data analytics, and machine learning.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate tools.

This position is well-suited for business analysts, engineers, and scientists who are passionate about executive-level planning and data analytics, particularly in the context of water and environmental stewardship.
