Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Nutrition Coordinator to join our team at Hidalgo Co. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the operation and management of the Child Nutrition component of our Program, ensuring compliance with Texas Department of Agriculture Regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, and our organization's Policies and Procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Child Nutrition Director in providing leadership, support, and technical assistance to child nutrition personnel and classroom staff in the design and implementation of the Early Childhood Development and Health Services Content Area.
  • Monitor nutrition and sanitation in each center and production kitchen to ensure compliance with Texas Department of Agriculture and sanitation guidelines.
  • Prepare and certify menus for special diets under the supervision of the Child Nutrition Director.
  • Attend staffings as assigned, review identified needs with the Child Nutrition Director, and help develop service delivery plans.
  • Address referrals on children with nutritional concerns and meet with child's parents, Center Manager, and teacher to discuss follow-up plans as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance to classroom staff in the area of child nutrition.
  • Review child's comprehensive file to identify accuracy of information relating to child nutrition.
  • Communicate with centers to address concerns/problems with classroom staff, custodian, and child nutrition employees as needed.
  • Prepare, verify, and correct Child and Adult Care Food Program, Texas Department of Human Services, Texas Department of Agriculture, and programmatic required forms and reports when necessary.
  • Assist the Child Nutrition Director in maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required by Texas Department of Agriculture.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in dietetics, nutrition, or related field.
  • Licensed as a dietician by the state of Texas (preferred).
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge in the areas of child development, nutrition, health, special services, social services, and management.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
  • Automobile and current liability insurance for work-related travel.
