Position Overview

As a pivotal member of our Data Science team within the Applied Product division, you will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of data-informed product development for our consumer offerings or developer platform at OpenAI. Your responsibilities will include defining key performance indicators, designing initial A/B testing frameworks, and creating comprehensive dashboards that empower the entire organization to address their product-related inquiries independently. Most importantly, you will collaborate closely with the product development team to create our initial offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the product development team as a reliable partner, discovering innovative strategies to enhance the product and stimulate growth.
  2. Design and analyze A/B tests that provide insights into the effects of model and user experience modifications on our product.
  3. Promote a data-centric product development ethos by defining, monitoring, and operationalizing metrics at the feature, product, and organizational levels.
  4. Create and disseminate dashboards, reports, and other tools that enable the team and organization to independently address product data inquiries.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Over 5 years of experience in a quantitative role within dynamic environments, preferably as a founding data scientist or product analyst in a rapidly growing product organization or research institution.
  • Experience in proposing, designing, and executing rigorous experiments that yield clear insights and actionable product recommendations using SQL and Python.
  • Ability to define, implement, and operationalize new metrics for features and products from the ground up.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with product managers, engineers, and executives.
  • Strategic insights that extend beyond traditional statistical significance testing.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in natural language processing, large language models, or generative AI.
  • Strong programming skills, with the capability to conduct simulations and prototype variations.
  • Experience in validating quantitative findings through qualitative methods, such as surveys or user experience research.
