Job Title: Special Education Assistant

Benicia Unified School District is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with learning disabilities in a classroom setting.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Assistant will assist teachers in special education and special needs classroom operations, provide instructional support to students, and perform related clerical tasks. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students and contribute to the success of our school community.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers in instruction and reinforcement of instruction to students with learning disabilities
  • Provide student and program record-keeping and clerical support
  • Supervise students during recess and lunchtime
  • Assist students with fine-motor skills and daily living activities
  • Prepare and assist with art projects and visual aids
  • Monitor students while on field trips and out-of-doors
  • Perform routine clerical work, including filing, photocopying, and laminating
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions:

The Special Education Assistant will work in a fast-paced classroom environment, interacting with students, teachers, and parents on a daily basis. The position requires the ability to lift up to 10 pounds, stand for prolonged periods, and move quickly in response to student needs.
