Key Responsibilities:

• Abide by and enforce all compliance requirements and policies, performing duties in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies, participating in the evaluation of environmental and safety issues and intervening appropriately.
• Assist with the orientation of new employees as assigned and require minimal supervision to safely perform essential functions.
• Utilize proper body mechanics when moving equipment and maintain a clean work area with appropriate forms and supplies.
• Respond to call lights, promptly relay information to nursing personnel, and acknowledge the presence of staff, physicians, and visitors at the nursing station.
• Run errands to support unit needs, process requests and orders during computer downtime, and check unit census and update condition codes.
• Access the Hospital Information System to enter requests for unit maintenance and repair, schedule diagnostic procedures, and order supplies and unit inventory.
• Enter physician orders accurately and in a timely manner, process patient charges, and complete patient transfers and discharges.
• Update patient diet needs daily on the Hospital Information System, replenish chart stationary, and serve as a receptionist, answering the telephone in a prompt and courteous manner.
• Perform general clerical duties, prepare unit admission packs, and monitor patients' charts frequently for signed MD orders.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and the healthcare team in person and via telephone, responding to overhead pages and notifying the Charge Nurse when leaving the unit.
• Maintain accurate and complete records by posting all forms and reports in the correct order, updating kardex as needed, and completing orders by forwarding forms using the FAX machine.
• Perform chart reduction, maintain a neat and properly ordered chart, and prepare the chart for Medical Records upon discharge.
• Complete all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements, utilizing cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
• Adhere to Infection Control and Safety Standards, keep unit material/flow sheets stocked, and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Transcribe delivery information from the medical records into the delivery register, process laboratory samples for analysis, and enter patient charges on a daily basis.
• Participate in Performance Improvement activities as assigned and maintain regular and prompt attendance, working the schedule as defined and overtime as required.
