Job Title: Design Lead - Urban Planner

Join the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as a Design Lead - Urban Planner and contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable urban design solutions. As a key member of the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction's (BEDC) In-House Design (IHD) directorate, you will work closely with the design team to deliver high-priority capital projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the design team and oversee the preparation of contract documents, including architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Section Manager to ensure timely delivery of projects and adherence to safety, schedule, quality, and customer service standards.
  • Review and oversee staff review of designs prepared by outsourced architectural and engineering firms.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Baccalaureate degree in architecture from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of full-time experience in planning, design, research, investigations, and/or studies related to urban design development programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and Revit, with experience in leading and supervising design teams.
  • Valid New York State Registration as an Architect.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in urban design and planning, with a focus on sustainable and innovative solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in coordinating projects with engineering and other disciplines.
