SUMMARY:
The Safety Monitoring Assistant plays a crucial role in collaborating with all stakeholders to enhance safety and security throughout the school environment. This position is responsible for promptly reporting any potentially hazardous situations to the appropriate supervisory personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work in conjunction with school administration and resource officers to establish protocols aimed at improving the safety and security of the educational facility.

Conduct regular patrols of hallways, restrooms, and outdoor areas to ensure a secure atmosphere. Oversee designated areas at specific times as assigned by school leadership. Monitor school entry points as necessary.

Appropriately address individuals who lack identification badges, visitor passes, uniforms, or other acceptable forms of identification within the school premises.

Participate in relevant training programs that enhance security and safety skills (such as CPR, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques). Supervise classrooms and group activities during emergencies or as directed.

Execute additional responsibilities as required to foster a safe and secure environment.

An Associate's Degree is preferred, or a High School diploma or equivalent with 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution, or a passing score on the ParaPro exam.

Experience working with children is essential.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence. Capable of effectively communicating before groups of district personnel or organizations. Ability to edit documents for clarity and accuracy.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Proficient in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical scenarios is required.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to analyze information and apply logic to resolve work-related issues and challenges. Capable of quickly assessing needs and providing timely feedback.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform responsibilities with an understanding of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Skilled in developing effective working relationships with staff and district personnel. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy. Ability to self-manage and handle multiple tasks while working independently and collaboratively.

The majority of work hours involve walking or patrolling (approximately 80%), with 10% spent observing and 10% seated. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Some driving may be necessary. Frequent writing and use of technology are also required.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

181 days/8.0 hours Aide Hourly Pay Scale The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full-time employment throughout the school year.

Conditions of employment may be adjusted for part-time employees or individuals hired for less than a full school year.
