Role Overview:

The Certified Surgical Technician operates under the guidance of the surgeon and RN. This role involves assisting the surgical team during procedures by organizing and inventorying sterile setups of instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, as well as passing items to surgeons and nurses as required. Responsibilities also include preparing and moving patients, and ensuring the sterilization and cleanliness of instruments, equipment, and rooms.


Value Added to the Team:
  • Utilizes physician preference cards to identify necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled surgical or emergency procedures, updating cards with any required changes.
  • Sets up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures.
  • Prepares solutions and medications, ensuring proper labeling and reporting of amounts used for documentation.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by preparing back tables and mayo stands based on the surgeon's preference card.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program

Experience:

  • Basic computer skills required.
  • One year of experience in a surgical environment preferred.

Credentials:

  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
