Job Overview

Position Summary:

Conducts assessments, evaluations, and recommends treatment for auditory disorders in children. Offers comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services to young patients, including visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, conventional audiometry, otoacoustic emissions testing, auditory brainstem response, acoustic immittance testing, earmold fitting, hearing aid dispensing, bone-conduction hearing aids, and cochlear implant services.

CHRISTUS Children's Hospital, a pioneer in pediatric healthcare since 1959, is dedicated to serving the unique medical needs of children. This facility, with over 190 beds, caters to a diverse patient population, providing specialized services ranging from Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care to Children's Emergency Services, advanced spinal deformity treatments, a Heart Center, a distinguished Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, and comprehensive maternal services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducts thorough interviews with parents prior to formal assessments.

• Selects appropriate evaluation methods based on patient history and referral reasons.

• Performs routine and specialized diagnostic assessments.

• Evaluates communication abilities through observation and informal interactions.

• Delivers precise diagnoses and sound recommendations.

• Effectively communicates results to parents.

• Provides educational resources and guidance to parents.

• Coordinates follow-up care for patients at risk for hearing loss.

• Recommends appropriate interventions, including amplification, therapy, referrals, follow-up assessments, educational modifications, and home care strategies.

• Engages parents and families in care planning and educational initiatives.

• Demonstrates understanding of normal developmental milestones across various domains.

• Accurately interprets age-specific audiometric data.

• Utilizes age-appropriate communication styles with patients.

• Ensures safety and injury prevention measures are in place.

• Proficiently operates age-appropriate assessment and treatment equipment.

• Provides emotional and psychosocial support tailored to the patient's developmental stage.

• Knows how to access community resources suitable for different age groups.

• Identifies and responds to signs of abuse or neglect appropriately.

• Maintains a well-organized, safe, and professional work environment.

• Completes documentation and billing in accordance with departmental guidelines.

• Produces clear and concise reports using established templates.

• Manages personal schedule to enhance productivity.

• May supervise a practicum student or a 4th year AuD candidate (stipend available for additional responsibilities).

• Participation in the cochlear implant program is optional (stipend available for additional responsibilities).

• Complies with HIPAA regulations to protect patient information.

• Upholds strict confidentiality standards.

• Utilizes effective oral and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and positively, in alignment with the CHRISTUS Mission.

• Adheres to established policies, procedures, and quality assurance measures.

• Executes job responsibilities in accordance with the CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics, supporting cultural diversity objectives.

• Supports and adheres to the CPN Service Guarantee.

• Performs assigned duties with minimal supervision.

• Undertakes additional related tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in Audiology (AuD) is mandatory.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Pediatric experience or externship is preferred.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • ASHA or ABA certification is mandatory.
  • Active Audiology Licensure in the state of practice is required.
