The Inpatient Financial Counseling Specialist is responsible for educating patients about their benefits and validating coverage. This role involves direct interaction with patients to review inpatient benefits, obtain authorizations, and manage financial liabilities related to inpatient, observation, and outpatient services throughout Ensemble Health Partners. This position requires precise verification and calculation of patient liabilities, including previous balances and collection of payments, with the possibility of working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The Financial Counseling Specialist must perform these duties while adhering to Ensemble Health Partners' mission and all regulatory compliance standards. The responsibilities include:
- Assessing and collecting patient liabilities, including copays, deductibles, co-insurance, and balances after financial assistance. This role requires evaluating patient insurance and financial information to determine liabilities, utilizing face-to-face communication with patients during their stay.
- Managing various patient access, insurance eligibility, and follow-up reports as assigned.
- Facilitating daily in-house call reviews with all relevant parties to ensure patients have valid payer sources with authorization for their current stay.
- Completing pre-registration and registration tasks, including registering patients at the time of service or prior to service while attempting to collect the patient's financial liability.
- Monitoring missed collection opportunities for potential process improvements and ensuring follow-up with patients.
- Documenting all accounts with patient liabilities on a daily basis.
- Making follow-up calls to patients unable to make payments while in-house.
- Sending letters to patients post-discharge detailing estimated liabilities and payment options.
- Assisting patients in signing consent forms and other registration-related documents as necessary.
- Supporting eligibility specialists in verifying insurance information, Medicaid, and charity processing.
- Running daily census reports to identify patients with potential eligibility.
- Assisting in the organization of outpatient orders related to current and future service dates.
Experience We Value:

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED Required
- CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) Required within 6 months of hire - Company Paid
