Job Summary
The Reg Radiology Tech provides direct supervision for the technical and support functions of a department within the Imaging division or department. This role coordinates daily operations within their division or department to ensure that patient care services are delivered in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the hospital mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that radiologic principles and theory are demonstrated utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or position for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by exam results.
- Adhere to policies and protocols to ensure all examinations are optimized for interpretation, as demonstrated by exam results.
- Teach sound radiography principles to staff and students as required by organization and supervisors direct observation.
- Provide appropriate adult/geriatric/pediatric/neonatal patient care and assess and interpret data based on the patient's status and the age-specific needs of each individual, as demonstrated by successfully completing age-specific checklist criteria.
- Check physicians' orders and reports for inaccuracies and report errors to the RN or Charge Tech. Ensure the completeness and accuracy of exams by having no exams done without proper orders.
- Effectively communicate with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patients or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results.
- Explain procedures to patients/families and answer any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction.
- Assist the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique, as evidenced by physician's satisfaction.
- Identify clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction.
- Maintain a safe environment by using side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring, as evidenced by risk management reports.
- Report any adverse, unsafe or unusual condition, document and correct it, as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports or department specific log books.
- Maintain an orderly, safe and clean state environment and ensure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and have required supplies readily available for procedures at all times.
- Operate equipment according to manufacturer's specifications and acquire images in appropriate technique as required, as evidenced by exam results.
- Effectively troubleshoot equipment and report equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports.
- Perform/recognize the need for routine maintenance of all equipment to maintain consistent quality images, as evidenced by the physician satisfaction and the exam results.
- Ensure patients are correctly identified along with their files, ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
- Track patients according to department procedures and identify errors, taking immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports.
- Participate in department/hospital performance improvement initiative, in-services and meetings, as evidenced by attendance records.
- Maintain exposure readings within the ALARA limits, as evidenced by monthly radiation exposure reports.
- Effectively use radiation protection procedures with collimation devices and protective shielding at all times, as evidenced by incidence reports and supervisor observation.
Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program
- Good interpersonal/human relations skills; Good oral/written communication skills; Good teamwork skills; Good critical thinking/decision making skills; Superior organizational skills
- American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT); New Graduates - Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification
