Shift Requirements:
Availability required from Sunday to Saturday, including rotating weekends. Flexibility for on-call duties is essential to accommodate operational needs.
Job Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist will independently conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses in designated laboratory sections, adhering to established protocols and criteria. Responsibilities include performing tests, documenting outcomes, and reporting findings while following quality assurance and quality control policies. The specialist will operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring accurate performance checks and maintaining comprehensive records.
Key Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, the specialist will:
- Execute tests as assigned in specific laboratory sections, including chemistry, hematology, transfusion services, and microbiology.
- Collaborate with coordinators and other professionals as necessary.
- Assist Clinical Laboratory Assistants and other technical staff as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field, along with successful completion of an accredited Medical Technology internship program, is required. Alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent with an Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution is acceptable, provided a clinical laboratory internship has been completed.
Certification/Licensure:
Certification as an MT/MLS or MLT by a recognized national certifying agency or an agency acknowledged by the Hawaii Department of Health Laboratories Branch is mandatory. A state license as a Technologist or Technician is also required.
Essential Skills:
- Proficient communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong customer service aptitude.
Additional Requirements:
Candidates must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including lab coats, gloves, and face shields. A mask fitting will be conducted upon hiring.
