Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Specialist to join our team at NV Energy. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and coordinating a broad scope of safety services and programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and other enforceable and recognized standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety regulations and standards, with experience in developing and implementing safety compliance programs. They will also possess excellent analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution, oral and written communication, and customer relations skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, administer, and facilitate safety compliance programs
  • Research regulatory changes and trends to maintain consistency and compliance with laws, company safety programs, policies, and procedures
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, local, and recognized and enforceable national codes, laws, regulations, and company policies as they relate to company operations or specific work procedures
  • Conduct facility and job site safety and health inspections, collaborate with company leadership to implement corrective actions
  • Perform or facilitate necessary functions related to regulatory and company compliance requirements, including noise dosimetry, atmospheric monitoring, and respiratory fit testing
  • Respond to and perform investigations of incidents, accidents, and near misses, provide and implement recommendations on cause, corrective actions, and preventative measures
  • Interpret data and prepare reports for external agencies, internal departments, and company leadership, assist in regulatory and company reporting and recordkeeping requirements
  • Serve as a technical adviser for assigned internal safety committees, represent the company in related local and state safety organizations
  • Design and deliver safety and health training/briefings for internal customers, external customers, and the public, participate in the company's public education program as required by USDOT 49 CFR 192.616 to achieve compliance with all stakeholder audiences
  • Apply technical knowledge, skills, and judgment to solve problems, respond to requests in a timely manner, including after hours and weekends, facilitate the resolution process, have supervisory authority to stop work because of unsafe work practices or conditions
  • Ensure all compliance aspects of position are known and followed, understand and comply with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company

Requirements:

  • Associate degree from an accredited school and 7 years of related experience, or candidates without an associate degree must have a minimum of 9 years of related work experience
  • OSHA 30-hour Outreach Training for Construction within 90 days of hire
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards, standard electric utility safety program components
  • Demonstrated skills in analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution, oral and written communication, and customer relations
  • Equipment and applications: PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software
  • Work environment and physical demands: general office, industrial plant, and field environments, some travel, outdoor field and site visits may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and other electric utility industry exposures that may require the appropriate use of personal protective equipment
