Job Title: Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CDL driver to join our team at Interstate Waste Services, Inc. as an Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver. This is a full-time, union position with an overnight schedule starting between 7pm and 9pm, with shifts varying from 10 to 12 hours per evening or until the route is complete.

Job Summary:

The Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver will be responsible for safely operating a rear-loading truck, collecting waste and recyclable materials from customers in the Brooklyn area. The driver will work alongside a helper to ensure a smooth and efficient collection process.

Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate a rear-loading truck in compliance with IWS's safety standards, OSHA, and DOT regulations
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using a standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
  • Ensure containers and their contents are secure, including checking tarps and ties
  • Monitor for safety and service-related issues, reporting any incidents or accidents to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch
  • Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times
  • Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings
Requirements:
  • Valid Class A or B CDL and a clean driving record
  • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B within the last 7 years
  • Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuse company is highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations
  • Ability to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public
