Job Title: Waste Collection CDL Driver

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Waste Collection CDL Driver to join our team at Interstate Waste Services, Inc. in Brooklyn, NY.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating a rear-loading truck for the pick-up service of waste and recyclable materials. The driver will transport the materials to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility, and may make one or more trips throughout the shift.

Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate a rear-loading truck in compliance with IWS's safety standards, OSHA, and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using a standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) and document any issues.
  • Ensure the container and its content are always secure, including checking tarps and ties, and climbing onto containers and/or reaching overhead.
  • Monitor for safety and service-related issues, and report any issues to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times, including receiving complaints and responding in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards.
Requirements:
  • At least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid Class A or B CDL and a clean driving record.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B within the last 7 years.
  • Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuse company is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations.
  • Ability to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Ability to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
