Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Patient Care Technician to join our team at Fresenius Medical Care North America. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients in the acute setting.
Key Responsibilities- Provide patient care under the direct supervision of a Hemodialysis Registered Nurse for assigned patients in the dialysis suite.
- Report and document all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN.
- Promote and assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
- Support the FMCNA commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) Activities.
- Set up and prime equipment as directed by the Fresenius Nurse for renal replacement therapies.
- Assure the dialysis machine has been set up, tested, and found to be safe for dialysis treatment.
- Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their well-being since their last treatment.
- Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
- Report any difficulties in cannulation to the FMCNA RN as permitted by state requirements.
- Accurately document information related to patient treatment.
- Calculate and enter individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed.
- Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including narrow venous limits (NVL 160).
- Collect, label, and ensure timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory per facility policy.
- Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician's order or as directed by the FMCNA RN.
- Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment.
- Report any change or unusual findings to the FMCNA RN.
- Evaluate patients prior to termination of venous access and obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
- Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- High School Diploma required.
- At least 6 months' experience in a related field (EMT, Surgical Technicians, Army, Phlebotomists, and technicians) is preferred.
- Must obtain CCHT within 18 months of hire.
- Effective communication skills - both verbal and written.

The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. The position provides direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance.
