PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Center for Homeland Security and Infrastructure Resilience at CNA is dedicated to crafting analytical solutions driven by data to tackle intricate and evolving challenges. Our work encompasses analysis and strategic planning, the development of decision-support tools, and the design of training and exercises aimed at enhancing the safety and security of our nation’s residents, visitors, environment, infrastructure, economy, and cyberspace.

Contribute to project and organizational requirements by (1) gathering, processing, validating, and analyzing relevant data for subsequent application, (2) executing technical assistance tasks such as organizing meetings and seminars, and (3) aiding in the proposal development process through the collection and organization of resumes, past performance documentation, and corporate capabilities. Serve as the primary data collector and provide substantial input into CNA studies and proposals, including project planning and coordination, report preparation, memoranda, newsletter articles, and quality assessments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Utilize standard research methodologies to collect, process, and analyze data. Employ relevant database software to efficiently organize and present data, generating comprehensive reports. Demonstrate intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard CNA software to fulfill primary responsibilities. Structure project tasks such as literature reviews, environmental assessments, and interviews. Take charge of drafting relevant sections of reports.

2. Acquire a foundational understanding of the missions and organizational structure of the division or team’s primary clients/sponsors. Build institutional knowledge of at least one key client/sponsor. Identify key individuals within their organization and gauge the client/sponsor's significance to CNA.

3. Engage in meetings with the project team. Assist in preparing for client/sponsor interactions. Identify the point of contact for their projects. Stay informed about major communications between the project team and client/sponsor representatives for any project in which they are involved. Contribute to meetings with clients/sponsors and the project team as needed.

4. Cultivate a sufficient understanding or expertise on specific tasks, issues, or data to positively influence project outcomes.

5. Develop a basic knowledge of CNA, its structure, key personnel, and relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs), including an understanding of the business environment. Familiarize oneself with the project development process and the concepts of core, above core, and above ceiling/domestic. Gain fluency in CNA's business environment and SOPs, including procedures for initiating and concluding projects, hiring subcontractors and consultants, and monitoring financial aspects and other project-related activities.

6. Exhibit the skills necessary to convey information clearly, accurately, and grammatically in both oral and written communication. Present and summarize data effectively. Draft sections of reports, briefings, or other project deliverables in accordance with established requirements and scholarly standards (if applicable).

7. Work more autonomously on focused, well-defined project components, estimating the time and resources required for these tasks. Operate under close supervision on broader project strands. Monitor personal project expenditures and begin to understand project budgeting and financial tracking throughout the project lifecycle.

8. Maintain a positive demeanor in interactions with colleagues, clients/sponsors, and staff. Take ownership of personal actions and outcomes. Proactively seek opportunities to enhance processes and operations, contributing to making CNA a better workplace.

9. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education: Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 2 years of experience in a designated technical skill (research, programming, foreign languages, event planning, etc.) or a Master’s degree.

2. Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience required.

3. Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; database management; strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; robust critical thinking and organizational abilities; knowledge of research methodologies.
