Job Summary:

As a key member of our team at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth registration process for patients receiving medical services in our clinics, hospitals, and other facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to register patients, obtain demographic information, and verify insurance details, all while adhering to established protocols and guidelines. You will also be responsible for collecting payments, answering patient inquiries, and referring patients to financial advocates as needed. In this fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will need to possess excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Registration: You will be responsible for greeting and registering patients for various medical services, verifying demographic and insurance information, and ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and efficiently. You will also be required to use problem-solving skills to verify patient identification and minimize duplicate medical records.
  • Revenue Collection: You will be responsible for determining and collecting cost-shares and partial payments for services received, entering and verifying payments in the computer, and maintaining billing accuracy and compliance with KPNW and National Revenue Cycle policies.
  • Appointing & Messaging: You will be responsible for taking messages as required, scheduling and canceling appointments based on member needs and regional policies, and making return appointments and referrals as necessary.
  • Regulatory/Organizational Compliance: You will be responsible for explaining and requesting patients to sign regulatory forms, making copies or scans of patient identification and insurance information, and maintaining compliance with CMS and other regulatory requirements.
  • General Services: You will be responsible for stocking forms and supplies, demonstrating responsibility in handling supplies and equipment, and assisting patients with phone numbers, facility directions, and office layouts.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience: Six months of healthcare financial experience, six months of cash handling experience, or six months of customer service experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • License, Certification, Registration: N/A
Additional Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and ability to switch tasks frequently.
  • Final candidates will complete an approved medical terminology course within six months of date of hire.
  • Strong complex problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous hospital or ambulatory clinic registration experience.
  • Previous experience with EPIC applications.
  • Certification by HFMA or NAHAM preferred.
