POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently looking for a full-time Substance Abuse Counselor to join our Family Recovery Center team. This center specializes in providing both individual and group therapy for children, families, and adults affected by substance use issues. The Counselor will engage in advocacy and collaboration with external agencies and support systems, ensuring comprehensive care for our clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver high-quality services to clients, ensuring their needs are met effectively.
  • Manage a diverse caseload, providing case management services, particularly for clients mandated by legal systems.
  • Conduct thorough intake assessments to understand client needs.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Make accurate diagnoses and consult with supervisors as necessary.
  • Develop realistic crisis intervention plans for clients.
  • Assist clients in setting and achieving treatment and change goals.
  • Access additional services required for client support efficiently.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans, in a timely manner.
  • Conduct laboratory screenings and document results accurately.
  • Maintain communication with legal representatives and inform them of significant developments.
  • Facilitate group sessions tailored to client needs.
  • Register clients in relevant systems as required.
  • Communicate professionally with family members and external agencies.
  • Stay informed about treatment modalities relevant to the client population.
  • Maintain a high appointment attendance rate.
  • Reach out to clients regarding missed appointments through calls and letters.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation related to client care is obtained.
  • Keep up-to-date progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Terminate cases appropriately following established procedures.
  • Notify office staff and clients of any schedule changes.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Participate in regular case reviews with supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • CASAC/CASAC-T certification or related educational background is necessary.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with substance use disorders is required; experience with co-occurring disorders is preferred.
  • Experience with adolescents and teens may be necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with referral sources is required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office; familiarity with Electronic Health Records is preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
