Position Overview:
As a Marine Engineering Specialist at KMS Solutions, you will act as a crucial on-board representative, tasked with monitoring shipboard conditions through thorough observation and evaluation. Your position will involve leading the maintenance team, serving as the Type Commander, and representing the Commanding Officer in all off-ship maintenance and modernization initiatives. Your comprehensive knowledge of operational and maintenance requirements will be key to ensuring mission readiness at all times.
Key Duties:
- Oversee an online database containing all job-related information.
- Validate work requests, prepare estimates, and plan work packages within established budgets and timelines for approval.
- Coordinate schedules, supervise repairs, and provide insights for maintenance funding decisions.
- Engage daily with ship crew, department heads, and commanding officers.
- Provide input on challenges, opportunities, and resources related to the Ship's Maintenance Plan.
- Offer recommendations and revisions to improve maintenance processes.
- Conduct risk assessments and prioritize maintenance needs for the vessel.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to facilitate maintenance planning and execution.
- Participate in maintenance, repair, and assessment events to address logistics and funding issues.
- Develop agendas and present comprehensive plans for maintenance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with sailing experience, or relevant engineering experience in the US Navy, or a background in commercial ship repair.
Security Clearance Requirement:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This position operates in a professional environment and involves physical tasks such as ship inspections and sea trials, necessitating good physical fitness and the ability to spend time at sea when required.
Position Type and Hours:
Expect a standard eight-hour workday with some flexibility, subject to supervisor agreement.
Travel:
- Minimal travel is anticipated, primarily to Fleet Concentration Support areas.
- Frequent underway time for various ship-related activities.
