POSITION OVERVIEW:
Lundbeck La Jolla Research Center, Inc. (LLJRC), a research division of H. Lundbeck A/S, is in search of a driven and passionate Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology team. This role is crucial in supporting preclinical programs within our portfolio and developing transformative therapies for individuals with brain diseases. The ideal candidate will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, leveraging extensive theoretical and practical expertise in in vivo pharmacology to advance Lundbeck's discovery initiatives. This position is suited for someone who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver high-quality data consistently to facilitate project advancement as a member of the in vivo pharmacology team.
- Engage in multi-disciplinary project teams to innovate and develop superior small molecule therapeutics.
- Conduct approximately 75% of work in the laboratory, focusing on the creation and execution of in vivo assays to identify pharmacologically active compounds and assess the mechanisms of action of new drug candidates.
- Independently design and oversee routine experiments, such as in vivo pharmacokinetic or pharmacology screenings of novel compounds.
- With minimal supervision, propose subsequent steps for projects and contribute to the design and execution of complex experiments, including in vivo pharmacodynamic studies, behavioral assays, and the collection of nervous system tissues.
- Manage experimental design, data documentation and analysis, and prepare reports and presentations for project teams.
- Ensure the ethical treatment of animals in accordance with all regulatory standards.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years, a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant laboratory experience, or a Ph.D.
- Proficient in in vivo techniques with mice and rats, including the administration of small molecule test articles through various routes, blood sampling, and tissue collection.
- Experienced in developing in vivo disease models and assays.
- Ability to work autonomously in designing and managing intricate experiments and to propose solutions based on experimental outcomes and scientific literature reviews.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
- A strong team player and independent contributor, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple tasks while delivering high-quality results under tight deadlines.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- Accredited B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, or a related field.
- Experience with neurological disease models.
- Familiarity with ex vivo tissue processing and analytical assays, including ELISA, MSD, transcriptomics, FACS, and histology is advantageous.
- Experience managing in vivo pharmacology studies at contract research organizations or academic institutions.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 5%. Occasional international travel may be necessary.
The salary range for this position is reflective of candidates who will work or reside in California and may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency. The salary pay range is $120,000 - $145,000, with eligibility for a 15% bonus target based on individual and company performance. Additional benefits include flexible paid time off (PTO), comprehensive health benefits, and a company-matched 401k plan.
