Responsibilities:
  • Administer nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of registered nurses, licensed physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform a variety of nursing tasks such as administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, and performing suction and irrigation of wounds.
  • Assist physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests, and provide emergency care such as first-aid and CPR.
  • Administer medications, including controlled substances, and provide medication instructions to patients.
  • Maintain medication accountability records and observe, document, and report patient conditions.
  • Provide general nursing and direct care assistance, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with personal grooming, and administering topical treatments.
  • Participate in various staff meetings and training programs, providing assistance and orientation to lower-level direct care staff.
  • Manage medication and medical supplies, ensuring cleanliness and organization of the nurses' station and medication room or cart.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones and filing.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, and general hospital practices.
  • Skilled in the use of medical equipment and hypodermics.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergency situations effectively, develop rapport with patients, and demonstrate manual dexterity in administering treatments.
