About the Role: The MITRE Special Operations Department (N252) is in search of an experienced, multi-disciplinary Systems Engineer with an operational focus for the Special Operations Forces (SOF) program. This role involves shaping and developing opportunities for direct sponsor work on prototype development and strategic operational initiatives, while providing subject matter expertise and integration on complex tasks across various SOF clients. N252 collaborates with a globally integrated team and partners closely with other MITRE departments to support the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and its components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Guide strategic objectives and oversee daily support to SOF across multiple tasks. Ensure impactful, data-driven products are developed in a timely manner. Collaborate with SOF Program Leads to deliver comprehensive and strategic support.
  • Technical Expertise: Exhibit strong knowledge in areas such as Special Operations, Operational Intelligence, Signature Management, Cyber Effects, and Unmanned Systems.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Foster strong leadership and develop a team that collaborates effectively with military leaders and action officers to identify challenges and communicate project goals.
  • Collaboration: Create a project team environment that builds a robust network of connections to engage with engineers, planners, and defense acquisition professionals.
  • Senior Engagement: Engage respectfully with senior military leaders and engineers from both domestic and international backgrounds.
  • Adaptability: Adjust strategies as the environment and sponsor priorities evolve, understanding the importance of leveraging resources effectively.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, International Relations, or a related field with 8 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 6 years of experience; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Experience with Special Operations Forces.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with specialized mission needs in constrained operational environments.
  • Ability to identify and close capability gaps between agencies.
  • Master's degree in a related field with demonstrated strategic planning capabilities.
  • Proven success in leading capability development projects and transitioning prototypes to the SOF community.
