Objective:
The primary aim of this role is to assist residents facing unemployment or underemployment in the Chad Brown and Admiral Terrace areas to reach their educational, employment, and financial stability aspirations. This position entails delivering personalized case management throughout the Jobs Plus a Bright Future initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct employment readiness training and provide referrals for job skills development.
• Assist participants in job searching and placement, along with strategies for maintaining employment.
• Perform intake assessments and administer career evaluations.
• Offer individualized counseling to help participants address their economic challenges and goals, including securing financial support.
• Create and oversee Individual Service and Training Plans (ISTP) to track participant progress.
• Connect participants with internal and external support services (such as childcare, mental health, education, and training) and ensure high-quality service delivery.
• Follow up with participants to ensure successful outcomes, job retention, and identify further coaching or support needs.
• Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to help participants overcome barriers and enhance their job search and interview skills.
• Adapt existing career exploration and employment readiness curricula to include training on resume writing, cover letters, interviewing techniques, and essential soft skills.
• Facilitate workshops on employment readiness and conduct program orientations.
• Collaborate with adult education organizations to ensure participants have access to ESL, GED, and literacy programs.
• Assist participants in navigating Workforce Solutions and enrolling in relevant job centers.
• Maintain detailed documentation of participant progress in case management systems while ensuring confidentiality.
• Record program activities and events for newsletters and reports as needed.
• Attend relevant training sessions and conferences for professional development.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
• A two-year college degree in social services, career coaching, community organizing, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience:
• Minimum of two years in job training, career coaching, job development, or community organizing.
• At least two years of experience in case management.
• Familiarity with case management database systems is essential.
Skills and Competencies:
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) is required.
• Understanding of issues related to low-income and public housing is necessary.
• Strong knowledge of skills relevant to job training programs and workplace expectations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with community resources for adult education and job training.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapting to change as needed.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
• Capability to engage with diverse populations in low- and moderate-income housing settings.
• Valid driver's license is required.
Working Conditions:
• Office environment with the ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
• Sedentary work with administrative duties, including walking, standing, and occasional driving.
Schedule:
• Flexibility to work a 35-hour week, including some evenings and weekends.
Equipment:
• Competency in operating computers, printers, and general office equipment.
