Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Roadway Design Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our Location and Design Division, you will be responsible for developing and reviewing sub-components and complete roadway designs using automated engineering and design software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review sub-components and complete roadway designs using automated engineering and design software.
  • Compute quantities and prepare plan assemblies for project milestones from scoping to advertisement.
  • Provide technical direction and support in the application of VDOT's standards, specifications, policies, and procedures in the development of transportation projects.
  • Ensure deliverables are accurate and correct in content.

Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
  • Experience in roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials.
  • Experience applying design standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation projects.
  • A combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
