Job Summary:

The Director of Volunteer Engagement leads the Volunteer Services team at Connecticut Food Bank, responsible for meeting the organization's ongoing need for volunteers to effectively carry out its mission in the community. This role oversees the administration and coordination of the volunteer program, including recruitment, placement, and recognition of volunteers. The Director works in cooperation with all departments to support the organization's mission and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, and civic groups to encourage volunteer engagement and support the organization's mission.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer staff, focusing on employee development and succession planning.
  • Implement a comprehensive volunteer appreciation program, including regular recognition and rewards for volunteers.
  • Develop and administer policies and procedures that guide the volunteer program, ensuring accurate reflection of volunteer activities.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify meaningful work for volunteers that supports the organization's needs and goals.
  • Provide volunteer support for special events, including organizing and managing the volunteer room function.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Volunteer Hub scheduling software, ensuring accurate volunteer data entry and integrity.
  • Support the Volunteer Advisory Committee and provide training to staff on Volunteer Hub usage.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring the budget for volunteer program expenses.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field with 3 years of related experience in a similar or related function, or 7 years of related experience in a comparable environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration or related field with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a similar or related function, or 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in a comparable environment.
  • 2 years of management experience.
  • Experience in volunteer management.
  • Experience with volunteer database systems.
