Job Description

The Security Manager I is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Security Department at Kewadin Casinos. This role ensures the safety of guests, customers, and team members, as well as the security of the casino property and assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the Security Department team members, including assigning and reviewing daily work and performance, approving overtime and leave, hiring and firing, and completing annual performance appraisals.
  • Serve as a liaison between the organization, law enforcement, and the Tribal Gaming Commission.
  • Manage and maintain the department budget.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the gaming floor and throughout the casino, observing the general work environment and interacting positively with team members and guests.
  • Ensure all Security staff adheres to applicable laws, company policies and procedures, departmental standard operating procedures, Federal, and Tribal gaming regulations.
  • Plan, direct, and implement security staff in hospitality, TIPS, and protection training.
  • Oversee all investigated complaints brought to Security.
  • Monitor Gaming and Casino floor activities for suspicious behavior.
  • Review all reports with the surveillance footage (within 24 hours) involving use of force to ensure accurate and complete reports have been submitted.
  • Report all use of force incidents to the Casino General Manager.
  • Manage and report security issues in a timely manner.
  • Refer appropriate matters to Tribal Law Enforcement, Gaming Commission, and Insurance departments.
  • Manage subordinates according to Kewadin policy.
  • Implement changes to decrease risk and/or liability for the company.
  • Annually review and update standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain issuance of temporary employee and vendor badge access.
  • Immediately respond to emergency situations, including medical, safety, fire, and/or threats.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend mandatory meetings and interdepartmental meetings to improve processes.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers, and outside vendors/service.

Physical Requirements:

This position is medium with lifting of 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include frequent standing, walking, lifting, and occasional sitting, pushing, stooping, kneeling, manual handling, use of smell, near/mid/far vision, typing, and bending. Working conditions include constant exposure to noise and air quality. Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to needles and syringes and equipment use.

Requirements:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Security with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience required.

Certification/License: CPR and First Aid Training and Certification required within 6 months of hire; training will be provided. Must be TIPS Certified within 3 months of hire and maintain active certification. Must undergo a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Demonstrated experience with Novell GroupWise, JD Edwards, Kronos systems, and other casino programs preferred. Must have good project management skills; provide strong leadership, prioritize project tasks, meet project deadlines, and effectively communicate with personnel, coworkers, subordinates, and the general public. Must be able to work extended hours when needed. Must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to work in a high-stress environment and handle difficult situations. Must maintain confidentiality. Native American preferred.
