Category Manager: Fuels and Lubricants Specialist

The Category Manager is a critical role in managing the end-to-end strategic spend categories that are vital to the company's financial and operational success. This includes both supplier relationships and negotiations for defined strategic spend categories, which are crucial for the company's financial and operational success.
Key Responsibilities- Build strong partnerships with suppliers to ensure they meet quality, cost, and delivery standards, while securing beneficial terms and long-term advantages through negotiations.
- Provide direct support to the Category Director and effectively facilitate the implementation and management of supply market strategies for these categories.
- Deliver actionable insights into market trends, financial opportunities, and risks to support strategic business decisions.
- Drive value through effective procurement strategies and manage the tactical delivery of major contracts and tenders for Fuels, Lubricants, and Energy.
- Implement and manage the category portfolio budget, ensuring alignment with expenditures and contributing to budget planning cycles for the categories under management.
- Manage a standard approach for category management across the group to drive a cost leadership culture.
- Implement buy-better and spend-better strategies to manage spend, scope future requirements, and understand the external market.
- Utilize a structured Category Management Playbook to manage a four-stage approach: Review, Strategize, Execute, and Track.
- Manage site-by-site improvement projects across LOM strategy, mining, processing, and external spend.
- Drive Supplier Relationship Management by setting joint objectives and KPIs with suppliers to enable proper contract management routines.
- Define and Track Value by managing value tracking in five key sources: Direct spend (Opex), Capital Spend, Working Capital, TCO Impacts, and Cost Avoidance.
- Enable Reporting by implementing Savings/Value Delivery and Price/Volume Variance reports to set leading and lagging indicators for value delivery and strategic focus.
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, or related field. MBA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years' business experience covering relevant category or experience in a commercial analytical role.
- Expertise in strategic sourcing and global commodity management.
- Anticipates and addresses significant problems before they arise.
- Communicates clearly and engages with the Category Director and Supply Chain BU peers on strategy, analytics, and execution.
- Integrates and manages multiple concepts and activities to align with the strategy set by the Category Director.
- Understands contractual agreements with exposure to relationship management.
- Identifies new solutions to current or anticipated problems through cross-functional interaction.
- Models alternative and creative solutions to influence colleagues and improve performance.
- Inspires and motivates others, promoting collaboration and excellence.
- Builds and maintains effective collateral and cross-functional working relationships.
- Solves complex problems and analyzes issues to drive optimal solutions and expected results.
- Utilizes advanced analytics to solve complex situations.
- Builds complex scenario models to validate category solution strategies.
- Develops templates and solutions to improve the category and ensure excellence.
- Self-starter who can independently manage the category.
- Develops and maintains relationships with BU stakeholders and suppliers.
This is a full-time, exempt position in the Denver Office.
Compensation$130,000-$155,000
