Job Opportunity: Department Chair of Epidemiology

The Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a senior-level faculty position with a key leadership role in the Department of Epidemiology.

About the Department

The Department of Epidemiology aims to provide outstanding epidemiology and public health training, conduct innovative research, and engage in impactful service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Vision:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the Department of Epidemiology
    • Provide vision and leadership to support superior academic and research programs
  • Teaching and Education:
    • Advance the education and research training missions in the VCU School of Population Health
    • Promote student success and facilitate the training of the next generation of public health professionals
  • Research and Development:
    • Define and lead the Department's research strategy
    • Conduct and expand translational and community-engaged research in public health
    • Support principal investigators and public health investigators in securing extramural support for research, training, and center grants
  • Service and Community Engagement:
    • Serve on School and University committees, grant study sections, academic societies, and editorial boards
    • Develop relationships with key community partners and stakeholders
  • Administrative and Financial Management:
    • Prepare, oversee, and implement the Epidemiology departmental budget
    • Ensure compliance with grant, legislative, and institutional guidelines
    • Effectively manage available resources and minimize unnecessary costs
Requirements
  • Unimpeachable integrity and personal ethics
  • Internationally recognized excellence in epidemiological research, education, and service
  • Successful administrative and leadership experience at an academic institution
  • Experiential learning through lived experiences and/or professional service that inform worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status
  • Experience and success mentoring academic faculty, early-stage investigators, and graduate students
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • PhD in Epidemiology or a field relevant to Public Health
  • Academic rank of Professor
