Job Summary

The Cardiac Rhythm Technician monitors and records electrocardiograph tracings of patients on telemetry monitors, recognizing and reporting arrhythmias to medical or nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate complex cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens, computerized dysrhythmia detection systems, and rhythm printers.
  • Observe and document ECG monitors according to established guidelines, reporting necessary information to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain, monitor, and clean equipment, reporting malfunctions to the appropriate Biomed person.
  • Set up central station, monitor alarms, troubleshoot false alarms, and correct improper placement.
  • Help with rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia detection, labeling monitor strips to show significant events.
  • Record information in patient logs, maintaining accurate and neat accounts of patient cardiac monitoring status.
Requirements
  • Enrolled in an appropriate educational program to receive Cardiac Rhythm Test within one year if current certification is not held.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart in relation to waves, complexes, time, and voltage.
  • Knowledge of telemetry services.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Relational skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adjust to changes in workload and work schedules.
