Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Security Legal Director to join our Central Security Legal Team at Facebook. This is a great opportunity to work on novel issues in an exciting environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters implicating user data disclosure in criminal investigations and civil matters.
  2. Identify and advise business and product partners on legal obligations globally relating to data disclosure and platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes.
  3. Develop and draft legal and operational policies around the protection and disclosure of user data.
  4. Work closely and creatively with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Policy, Communications, Engineering, and Business Operations in reviewing and addressing governmental regulations, agency guidelines, policies, including government requests for user data.
  5. Manage effective relationships with key government agencies, regulators, and law enforcement agencies, in close collaboration with internal cross-functional teams.
About the Role

This role requires a strong understanding of U.S. law, including the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute. Experience working with U.S. or international law enforcement authorities is highly desirable.

Requirements
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent).
  • Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location).
  • 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience.
  • Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Substantial experience with U.S. law, including the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $167,000 - $233,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits package.
