Job Overview

As a member of the Army National Guard serving as a Cannon Crewmember, you will be an integral part of a team dedicated to maintaining the U.S. military's tactical advantage. Your role involves delivering impactful artillery strikes against adversaries using advanced howitzers and mastering sophisticated cannon artillery systems, along with artillery strategies and tactics.

Responsibilities

As you develop your expertise, your duties will expand to include supervising fellow crewmembers in ammunition distribution and overseeing cannon operations, training, and maintenance.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing wire and radio communications
  • Identifying and locating targets
  • Setting up, loading, and firing artillery
  • Utilizing technology to produce fire direction data
  • Operating both heavy and light wheeled and tracked vehicles
  • Transporting and overseeing artillery ammunition
  • Ensuring the operational readiness of vehicles and equipment
  • Participating in reconnaissance missions

Compensation and Training

Instead of incurring costs to acquire these skills, you will earn a salary while training. In the Army National Guard, you will receive valuable training while earning a consistent paycheck and qualifying for educational assistance.

Training for a Cannon Crewmember consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental soldiering skills, followed by 7 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), which includes both classroom instruction and field training under simulated combat scenarios.

Requirements:
  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
