Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Road Maintenance Worker to join our team at the County of San Benito, CA. As a Road Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of physical labor duties, including maintenance, construction, and repair of County roads, bridges, and related facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, construction, and repair of County roads, bridges, and related facilities.
  • Operate a variety of trucks and equipment, including crawlers, tractors, power booms, chippers, graders, and other power-driven equipment.
  • Perform oil and chip seal work on roads, and semi-skilled concrete work in the construction and maintenance of culverts and related structures.
  • Mix and place concrete, and perform maintenance functions such as cutting brush, clearing culverts, and cleaning ditches.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of construction equipment, and perform routine servicing of equipment such as changing oil and filters.
  • Transport road maintenance equipment throughout the County using proper tie down techniques.
  • Check roads for hazards, and maintain records of materials and equipment used.
  • Communicate with the public during flagging duties, and operate a two-way radio.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent, and some previous work experience performing heavy physical labor is highly desirable.
  • One year of road maintenance work and construction experience comparable to that of a Road Maintenance Worker I with San Benito County, with training and background in truck or equipment operations.
  • Two years of road maintenance work and construction experience comparable to that of a Road Maintenance Worker II with San Benito County, with training and heavy equipment operations.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License, and a Class A driving permit in conformance with California Department of Motor Vehicle licensing requirements within six months from date of hire.
