Role Summary:
The Water Quality Protection Coordinator is responsible for managing various initiatives related to backflow prevention, industrial pretreatment, and public education regarding water safety. This role involves the planning, organization, and coordination of water protection programs within the Utilities Division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advance the mission and objectives of water protection and industrial pretreatment programs.
- Identify and enforce relevant regulations, policies, and emergency response protocols.
- Prepare and submit various reports concerning water protection and pretreatment initiatives.
- Conduct compliance inspections for backflow and industrial pretreatment.
- Collect and analyze laboratory samples to ensure compliance with local standards.
- Implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Review plans for public utilities and private developments impacting the water and wastewater systems.
- Engage with City staff, business owners, and residents to ensure understanding of regulatory requirements.
- Participate in pre-application meetings as necessary.
- Draft and approve Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permits.
- Inspect grease interceptors in restaurants periodically.
- Maintain necessary resources to deliver services effectively.
- Stay informed about federal, state, and local regulations related to water and wastewater management.
- Provide educational outreach to the public.
- Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders on utility projects.
- Oversee the Cross Connection Control Program.
- Review plans and inspections related to Industrial Pretreatment and FOG Programs.
- Utilize software tools to meet program objectives.
- Represent the department in meetings with external organizations and the public.
- Deliver exceptional customer service.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; two years of experience in wastewater treatment, water distribution, or related fields; or a combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary skills for the role.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid Arizona Class D driver's license; must obtain a Backflow Assembly General Tester Certification within one year of hire; must also secure ADEQ Grade 2 Water Distribution System Operator and ADEQ Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certifications within two years of hire.
