Job Summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a skilled Trades Specialist V-Grounds to join our team. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for planning, supervising, and assigning work to trades crews engaged in general repair, maintenance, or construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and assign work to trades crews engaged in general repair, maintenance, or construction activities.
  • Screen, select, and provide on-the-job training for trades personnel.
  • Make recommendations on the repair, replacement, and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
  • Plan, organize, schedule, monitor, and evaluate trades activities.
  • Assist in the compilation of data; prepare correspondence, reports, summaries, and budgets.
  • Maintain, rebuild, and tune pianos.
  • Perform high-level trades skills in the maintenance and repair of military equipment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and three years of trade experience directly related to the area of employment.
  • Some positions require a commercial driver's license.
  • Some positions require EPA-approved freon recovery certification.

  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.
  • Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., unassisted.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more, assisted.
  • Ability to carry objects on plane, on ladders, up stairs, etc., weighing up to 50 lbs, unassisted.
  • Ability to push/pull equipment carts.
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected.
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
  • Ability to operate winches, come-alongs, jacks, etc.
  • Possess maintain dexterity in order to use hand tools, both manual and powered.
  • Ability to qualify physically for respirator use.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain EPA-approved freon recovery certification.
