General Summary

The Early Head Start Teacher's Aide plays a crucial role in supporting the Lead Teacher by facilitating daily activities aimed at nurturing the physical, emotional, nutritional, social, and intellectual growth of children. This position is vital in maintaining a safe, healthy, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in directing classroom activities while ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of children during their participation in the program.
  2. Collaborate with fellow educators to support daily operations within the center.
  3. Contribute to the creation of weekly lesson plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of children.
  4. Execute teaching responsibilities as outlined in the established curriculum and performance benchmarks.
  5. Engage in essential tasks associated with the teaching role, including home visits, child assessments, and necessary documentation.
  6. Step in to fulfill teaching duties during the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  7. Facilitate communication between parents and staff regarding children's progress and well-being.
  8. Participate in relevant training sessions and meetings, including parent committee gatherings and staff development workshops.
  9. Ensure that emergency supplies are well-maintained and stored according to agency policies, and that communication systems are regularly tested.
  10. Work collaboratively with all staff members to enhance the program's effectiveness.
  11. Assist in the recruitment of eligible children for the program.
  12. Understand and adhere to the responsibilities of being a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect.
  13. Never leave a child unattended.
  14. Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Must possess an infant/toddler CDA credential.
  3. Familiarity with program curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices.
  4. Ability to interact positively and constructively with children and parents.
  5. Capability to design and implement classroom activities based on individual children's needs.
  6. Strong teamwork skills with center staff, parents, and management.
  7. Understanding of basic child development principles and child care practices.
  8. Maintain a professional demeanor that reflects positively on the staff, parents, agency, and community.
  9. Complete initial medical examinations and TB assessments as required.
  10. Pass background checks, including child abuse/neglect screenings and drug tests.
Working Conditions

This position may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or communicable diseases. The role requires travel on various road types for child transportation and the ability to lift up to 55 pounds frequently. The job entails standing for extended periods, as well as bending, kneeling, and sitting in child-sized furniture.
