General Summary:The Early Head Start Teacher's Aide plays a crucial role in supporting the Lead Teacher by facilitating daily activities aimed at fostering the physical, emotional, nutritional, social, and intellectual growth of children in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in guiding classroom activities while ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of children during their participation in the program.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to support daily operations within the Head Start center.
- Contribute to the creation of weekly lesson plans and activities tailored to meet the unique needs of each child.
- Execute teaching responsibilities as outlined in the curriculum and performance standards.
- Support all aspects of the teaching role, including home visits, child assessments, and necessary documentation.
- Step in to fulfill the teacher's duties during their absence when required.
- Facilitate communication between staff and parents regarding children's progress, ensuring a positive interaction.
- Engage in relevant Head Start training, attend meetings, and participate in professional development as needed.
- Maintain emergency supplies and ensure proper storage in accordance with agency policies.
- Work collaboratively with all Head Start personnel.
- Assist in the recruitment of eligible children for the program.
- Understand the responsibilities of being a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect, adhering to established reporting procedures.
- Never leave a child unattended during program hours.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must possess an infant/toddler CDA credential.
- Familiarity with program curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Ability to relate positively to children and parents.
- Skills in developing and implementing classroom activities based on individual needs.
- Ability to work effectively with other staff, parents, and management.
- Knowledge of child development principles and guidance techniques.
- Maintain a professional demeanor that reflects positively on the program.
- Complete a medical examination and TB assessment within the first month of employment, with follow-ups every five years.
- Pass background checks, including child abuse/neglect and drug screenings.
Candidates should demonstrate emotional maturity, a cooperative spirit, respect for all individuals, flexibility, patience, and good personal hygiene. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to observe children effectively are essential. The role may involve fulfilling responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies.
Working Conditions:This position may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or communicable diseases. Candidates should be prepared for travel on various road types while transporting children. Physical demands include lifting up to 55 pounds, climbing, bending, kneeling, and prolonged standing.
