The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is in search of a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the esteemed Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a clinical authority and care coordinator for a designated patient demographic, collaborating with administrative and clinical nursing personnel, physicians, and patients/families.
  • Engage with nursing and medical teams to establish and assess care standards, ensuring effective planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care tailored to specific conditions and age groups. Provide direct nursing care as needed while adhering to universal precautions.
  • Independently manage and facilitate patient care across various disciplines, ensuring seamless coordination within the healthcare system and local community resources.
  • Optimize patient care by coordinating supportive services, scheduling necessary tests, following up on results, and managing appointments and medication education.
  • Maintain professional interactions with staff, patients, and medical personnel, fostering a cooperative environment.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development to maintain clinical expertise relevant to patient needs and current nursing practices.
  • Exhibit strong management and consultancy skills aligned with the responsibilities of the role.
  • Adhere to nursing practice standards and maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture and embody the core values of service leadership: respect, communication, accountability, integrity, and compassion.
  • Demonstrate composure in challenging situations, actively listening to and understanding diverse perspectives.

Work Schedule:
Full-time, Monday through Friday, with no night shifts, holidays, or weekends.
Compensation:
Starting salary of $63,618, commensurate with experience and effort level.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is mandatory.
  • Current Iowa nursing license required upon hire.
  • Proven experience in patient education is essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Demonstrated organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Experience in adult patient/family discharge planning is essential.
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team is crucial.
  • Teamwork skills are highly valued.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Recent experience in oncology nursing is advantageous.
