Job Summary

The Clinic Patient Care Assistant (CPCA) plays a vital role in providing direct and indirect care to patients presenting for various services, including preventative, specialty, urgent, and emergent issues. Under the supervision of the practice physician and/or advanced practice provider, the CPCA will provide care based on their scope of training and documented competencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide practice-specific care to meet the needs and behaviors of patients based on their age and assessed level of growth and development.
  • Review patient data prior to the office visit for relevant clinical updates, laboratory, x-ray, and other results.
  • Obtain medical and social history, chief complaint, and/or history of present illness.
  • Complete assessments, such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse ox, hearing, and vision screenings.
  • Review the medication list with the patient and/or family.
  • Document all data obtained in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Prepare the patient for examination and set up necessary equipment.
  • May serve as a chaperone for patient examination at the request of the physician or advanced practice provider.
  • May perform point of care testing, obtain urine, respiratory swabs, and throat swabs, and complete order entry for the point of care test.
  • Maintain patient flow through the office by efficiently utilizing exam rooms.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in healthcare is preferred but not required.
  • CPR provider certification is preferred but not required.
